Ten credentials. One map. Your whole career on a single page.

Canadian wealth management runs on credentials — but nobody hands you the map. Issuers explain their own programs and stay silent about the rest. So people end up taking courses they no longer need, writing exams in the wrong order, and discovering prerequisites the hard way.

Here's the whole ladder, the way it actually works in 2026. Three tiers. Each one answers a different career question.

Tier 0 — Permission to operate

The regulatory layer. These get you legally into the game.

CIRE — Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam. Since January 2026, this is the universal entry exam for the investment dealer channel. One paper, 110 questions, two hours. No mandatory course — self-study is officially supported. If you're entering the industry, your path almost certainly starts here. [Explore the CIRE program →]

RSE — Retail Securities Exam. The second exam for anyone who wants to advise retail clients rather than just execute orders. Scenario-heavy, suitability-obsessed, and the paper where new advisors are made. [Explore the RSE program →]

CSC — Canadian Securities Course. The industry's legendary first course — no longer the dealer-channel licence it used to be, but still the mandatory foundation for the CIM and PFP designation paths, and still the licensing course for mutual fund and exempt-market channels. Knowing whether you actually need it is half the battle; our guide settles that in the first section. [Explore the CSC program →]

Tier 1 — The income accelerators

Professional designations. These move you from licensed to sought-after.

CFP — Certified Financial Planner. The dominant planning designation in Canada, title-protected in Ontario and Saskatchewan, held by roughly 17,000 professionals. A six-hour exam that is mostly written response — which is exactly how we prepare you for it. [Explore the CFP program →]

PFP — Personal Financial Planner. The bank channel's planning designation of choice, with a case-study exam of its own and a certification path that most people — including some issuers' own marketing — routinely get wrong. Ours is verified. [Explore the PFP program →]

CIM — Chartered Investment Manager. The named route to discretionary portfolio management under CIRO rules — the credential that lets you manage money, not just recommend it. [Explore the CIM program →]

CFA — Chartered Financial Analyst. The global gold standard of investment analysis. Our system focuses where Canadian candidates actually struggle: Level III's essay paper, where knowing the curriculum and scoring the points are two different skills. [Explore the CFA program →]

Tier 2 — The ceiling breakers

Elite credentials. You can't start here — that's what makes them worth having.

CIWM — Certified International Wealth Manager. The high-net-worth specialization for advisors moving upmarket into private banking, family office, and UHNW work. [Explore the CIWM program →]

FCSI — Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. The industry's highest honour — roughly 3,500 holders, seven years of experience required, peer endorsement included. Less an exam than a candidacy; we prepare you for the whole of it. [Explore the FCSI program →]

RFP — Registered Financial Planner. The practice-validated planning mark, earned by writing a real comprehensive financial plan to a professional standard. Our plan-writing module was built for exactly that. [Explore the RFP program →]
